    Department:

    Surgery


    Works under the supervision of the Nurse Specialist to perform decontamination, recycle, sterilization, case picking, restocking, surgical suite cleaning and inventory control duties as assigned.

    While under the immediate supervision of the Registered Nurse performs limited aspects of direct and indirect patient care and serves as a supportive liaison between Surgical Sterile Processing and the Operating Room on a daily basis.

    Annual performance appraisals and competency testing will measure the level of knowledge and skill. Employees must maintain competency, knowledge, and skills to continue employment.

    Transports and positions the patient using proper body mechanics to avoid injury and protect the patient.

    Transports and delivers equipment to and from rooms, floors, storage areas and departments.

    Functions in the Decontamination Room per procedure.

    Applies appropriate cleaning/disinfection techniques and sterilization procedures for all equipment, instrumentation, devices and technology that are recycled through sterile processing area.


    Works with hazardous chemicals and contaminated waste.

    Stocks all inventory items to par levels, including medications (other than narcotics). Stocks all specialty carts, surgical suites and equipment throughout the department.

    Facilitates surgery room turnover.

    Checks sterile packages for integrity, checks for in-house, and manufacturers outdates.

    Uses machinery such as Steris Machine, Sterad Machine, Sterilizers, and Airclean Cidex system.

    Verifies that instrument set inventory of items is complete, and in working order prior to assembly for rapid sterilization. Removes broken instruments and replaces worn items per procedure.

    Verifies correct data to facilitate accurate charging and crediting patient accounts when utilizing medication inventory control system.

    Uses Surgeon Preference Cards to pull cases for Surgery, works with the Nurse Specialists to share/exchange information about product and product changes for current and upcoming procedures.

    Verifies correct supplies, equipment and instrumentation are readily available for each procedure including obtaining missing items and resolution of issues associated with the acquisition.

    Communicates and coordinates activities with Surgical Sterile Processing Department (SSPD) to ensure smooth efficient flow of surgical case carts from SSPD to the Operating Room Suites.

    Performs other job related duties as assigned, but not limited to, orientation of new personnel, par level inventory controls, keeping a clean work environment, linen processing, receiving, storing and labeling of supplies, and special projects as assigned.

    Education: Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED.

    Licensure: . Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.

    Experience: Previous Operating Room experience preferred. Medical terminology is required. Previous experience within a surgical or sterile processing environment preferred. Working knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.

    The hourly rate for this position is $ $36.33. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
