The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents.

We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential.

By using a blend of internal and external technologies and capabilities, we work to discover and deliver first-in-class as well as best-in-class molecules that warrant clinical evaluation for patient benefit.

The Discovery Biotherapeutics group supports programs across all BMS therapeutic areas including Oncology, Immunoscience, Cardiovascular Disease, and Fibrosis.

Group activities comprise of protein expression, purification and characterization making use of high throughput methods and automation to enhance productivity where possible.


Responsibilities:


  • Routine maintenance and cell banking of HEK and CHO cells
  • Mammalian protein expression in shake flasks using both transient transfection and stable cell lines (Expi293, ExpiCHO, CHOZN)
  • Harvest of cell culture using filtration and centrifugation
  • Antibody purification and quantitation using Blitz or Octet
  • Assist with liquid handling and automation method development experiments for miniscale expression.
  • On occasion, operation of integrated automation robots to perform small scale expression and purification.
  • Ensure accurate registration of protein lots and associated data into Genedata system.
  • Maintain a complete and current Electronic Laboratory Notebook.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary drug discovery teams, communicate results both written and verbally with matrixed working group.
  • Accomplish goals under project team timelines.
  • DNA Inventory tracking and maintenance.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Engineering, or a related field and 2+ years of academic / industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with Mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique is required.
  • Experience with Genedata and ELN is highly desirable.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to follow protocols effectively.
  • Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with a sense of urgency and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with liquid handling is desirable.

For field-based and remote-by-design roles the ability to physically travel to visit customers, patients or business partners and to attend meetings on behalf of BMS as directed is an essential job function.
