    The University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine is seeking talented, energetic, motivated, and intelligent candidates to join the Microbiology and Immunology Department. ***This position does notprovide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding*** This immunology, molecular, and cell biology position supports the day-to-day management of the McIlwain lab and will perform bench-level experiments as part of a team investigating the mechanisms underlying infectious disease. This position will support and participate in various ongoing research studies, assist in the development of breakthrough methodologies for highly multidimensional analysis of protection and host immune responses to viral and bacterial infection in support of novel therapeutics.

    Primary responsibilities include experimental design and hands-on work processing blood and tissue samples from humans and animal models, antibody conjugation, sample staining, determining optimal performance conditions for antibodies and other reagents, running samples on multiplexed cytometry and microscopy platforms, compiling, and analyzing results, and making oral and written reports.

    This position will assist in the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications and support lab organization and maintenance including ordering and maintaining supplies/reagents, responding to emergency equipment alarms; training and supervising students and junior staff on experimental procedures and lab operations; updating and coordinating with the principal investigator the standard operation procedures (SOPs) for all experiments and related processes; and other duties as assigned. This position will join a dynamic research team, ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines, collaborate effectively, and will have opportunity for growth.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and one (1) year of professional research experience either in the field or in a laboratory; OR
    • One (1) year of experience as a Staff Research Associate I in Nevada State service, OR
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Candidates with experience with assay development, flow cytometry, and histology are encouraged to apply.
    • Candidates with competence in data analysis and coding (e.g. R, Python, etc.) are encouraged to apply.
    • Candidates who are mature, can make independent judgement, problem-solving and have excellent communication skills, and can work independently and as part of a team are encouraged to apply.

    Schedule

    The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

    Grade 31
