    Salary for Announcement

    The minimum of the pay range for this position is $45,300. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $46,300 - $56,650 . The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $46,300.

    The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Position Summary

    The Program Coordinator for Student Leadership Programs is a creative, innovative, and passionate student affairs professional who operates from a lens of understanding and prioritizing equity in working with MSU Denver's diverse students. The Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for leading comprehensive student leadership programs and is involved in promoting equity, civic engagement, and cultivating student engagement across the MSU Denver campus community and is a strategic and student-centered thinker who is also skilled at developing effective professional collaborative relationships with individuals and departments.

    The Program Coordinator for Student Leadership Programs is charged with embedding equity and a sense of belonging in student leadership engagement to positively impact academic and career outcomes of students. This involves implementing evidence-based strategies to cultivate socially just leadership practices and deploying multicultural engagement theories and frameworks into student leadership opportunities offered to MSU Denver's diverse student population. This key leadership position works across the University with faculty, staff, and key student affairs and academic departments to establish strong and intentional partnerships focused on developing robust and meaningful leadership experiences that affirm identity, build community, and cultivate leadership among students from a culturally conscious lens. This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Organizations and Leadership Programs within the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion (CMEI).

    Duties/Responsibilities

    50% - Oversight of Leadership Programming
    • Responsible for the overall administrative, budgetary, and personnel needs of the CMEI's student leadership programming. Ensures that this programming centers racial equity, cultural identity, and operationalizes social justice.
    • Responsible for the implementation and assessment of the MSU Denver Urban Leadership Program. Ensures robust scholar support, superior administrative management, and aggressive marketing strategy.
    • Implements campus-wide student leadership development strategy that is inclusive of student club and organization, student government, and fraternity and sorority members.
    • Serves as a subject matter expert on student leadership development within the CMEI, coordinates yearly leadership lecture/community building series, and Urban Leadership Program leadership lectures.
    • Collaborates with colleagues in the CMEI, Student Affairs, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, as well as with academic Deans, department chairs, and faculty to ensure integration of academic co-curricular leadership programming across the university.
    • With the support of the Associate Director and other colleagues, intentionally works with relevant student organizations, the fraternity and sorority community, and the Student Advocacy Council (TSAC) to cultivate and develop leadership skills among students holding formal leadership positions.
    • When appropriate, serves as a representative tri-institutional leadership programming, including but not limited to identity-based leadership summits, conferences, and programming.
    • In conjunction with the Associate Director for Student Organizations and Leadership, supports civic education programs, and coordinates programming related to the Roadrunners Give Back Initiative.
    • Serves as MSU Denver CMEI's representative to the Colorado Leadership Alliance.
    15% - Supervision and Operations
    • Provides excellent supervision for the CMEI undergraduate student staff who support program operations and create conditions that empower historically underrepresented student populations at MSU Denver (i.e. Black, African/African American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and Indigenous students).
    • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and holds employees accountable to performance expectations.
    • Monitors allocated budget and expenses. Responsible for advocating for equity and justice in development and deployment of fiscal strategies impacting multicultural engagement and inclusion.
    15% - Student Support and Advising
    • Regularly meet with students in assigned cohorts and provide leadership development, coaching, and support.
    • Develop intentional partnerships with various campus student support services to ensure appropriate referrals when necessary.
    10% - Assessment and Reporting
    • Tracks student participation, assesses student learning, and manages data for all relevant program areas, and in other areas related to student engagement, as requested.
    • Regularly communicates (and reports) on student participation and outcomes; does so with disaggregated information on relevant student demographic characteristics including race and ethnicity.
    10% - Related Other Duties
    • Actively participates in committees and working groups related to equity and student engagement and supports the development and implementation of equity and diversity education and training on campus.
    • Leads and/or contributes to special projects and/or initiatives, as requested that relates to equitable student engagement.
    • Participates in training and relevant professional development activities to support professional and/or departmental growth. Works to operationalize and/or integrate learning from these trainings into the work unit and work processes.
    • Is an innovator, a disrupter, and a change agent for racial equity and student engagement. Strives to recognize inequities in the work and in oneself and commits to address them. Seeks out opportunities to take calculated risks in support of a more engaged and equitably supported student community at MSU Denver.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Experience working with underrepresented students specifically, low-income, first-generation, and racially/ethnically diverse.
    • Experience working with students in an educational setting.
    • Sound knowledge of and understanding of contemporary equity-minded leadership development and identity development theories. Direct experience translating this knowledge to practice with college students.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Earned master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, education leadership, counseling, social work, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated experience contributing positively to campus-wide equity and social justice outcomes and initiatives.
    • Familiarity and experience with implementing the Social Action, Leadership, and Transformation (SALT) model.
    • Professional experience working to advise or otherwise support student engagement, leadership development, multicultural affairs, or student retention and success programming.
    • Experience developing and reporting on student learning outcomes.
    • Experience conducting program evaluation for improvement.
    Work Hours
    • 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    • Hybrid work arrangements as appropriate
    • Some nights and weekends expected
