- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa for deaf or hard of hearing students in classroom settings, assemblies, meetings, and other school activities.
- Provide support to students by clarifying information, assisting with note-taking, and reinforcing instructional materials.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other staff members to ensure effective communication and understanding of students' needs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Attend professional development workshops and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and advancements in sign language interpretation.
- Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation or a related field preferred.
- RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification or equivalent preferred.
- EIPA 3.5
- Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of deaf culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to various communication styles and environments.
- Must pass a background check and any other required screenings.
