Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) has been proudly serving our community since 1933 and is one of the original Planned Parenthood affiliates in the nation.


  • We provide reproductive health care, health education and advocacy from our five health centers in
    Alhambra, Baldwin Park, Glendora, Highland Park, and Pasadena, in addition to our telehealth clinic. We strive to ensure
    the sexual and reproductive health services we provide align with the needs of the communities we serve. Our service area extends from Glendora to Glendale and from
    the San Gabriel mountains to the San Bernardino freeway, home to 24 communities and a diverse population of 1.4 million people.
  • We offer safe and legal abortions. We are committed to providing accurate, nonjudgmental care and resources by helping our patients overcome financial, transportation, and other barriers to care. In addition, we work with abortion funds and practical support network to support our patients. Our abortion care has increased every year since 2018 with an average of 3,500 abortions per year. We saw close to 4,000 abortion patients in 2022 alone, approximately 59 were outofstate patients.
  • The Community Health Educator will work directly with the Manager of Foster Youth Programs. This position will lead and coordinate a threeyear state grant to address root causes of reproductive oppression for youth in foster care and youth populations overrepresented in the foster care system. The Community Health Educator will deliver education online and in person. They will develop and lead a Youth Advisory Board (YAB), parent and caregiver workshops in _
    _English and Spanish__, and trans youth programming. This person will identify how a system is influenced for change, identify strategies to sustain ideas and projects for lasting impact, and share those findings in public spheres. They will have a creative opportunity to test innovative approaches to reaching high need youth, and their stakeholders, within the Pasadena, Glendale, Northeast LA and San Gabriel Valley area._

As a Community Health Educator, you will change lives while you:

Education:


  • Plan and implement ageappropriate, unbiased, and medically accurate in
  • person and online
education on sexual and reproductive health topics and information about accessing services, including at Planned Parenthood health centers
  • Develop and maintain expertise in comprehensive sexual health education, traumainformed and healingcentered approaches, rights of minors and youth in foster care, and healthcare access for youth
  • Provide education and training to a wide variety of audiences including youth, parents and guardians, youthserving professionals, volunteers, interns, and others
  • Works with colleagues to share education work externally, via social media posts, newsletters, participation at donor events, etc.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain strategic community partnerships that further the goals of the department and ensure community involvement in department projects

  • - **Project Lead**:
    • Coordinate and lead youth programs, such as Peer Advocates and Youth Advisory Board, both in
    • person and online
    • Create program documentation and manuals.
    • Assist in the design of evaluation tools to measure program effectiveness and suggest adaptation of programs based on results
    • Track youth program expenses to budget accordingly
    • Supervise Planned Parenthood staff, volunteers/interns, and/or peer educators for any activities to achieve project and program goals
    • Maintains documentation of presentations, enters data into Salesforce database, and prepares program reports

    - **Grant Administration**:
    • Communicate with all members of the grant work team regarding upcoming deadlines and deliverables
    • Attend all required meetings and trainings, both in
    • person and online
    , to serve as a consistent participant in grant activities
    - **Other**:
    • Work with the Manager of Foster Youth Programs and other team members to develop best practices for the programs and to identify program expansion opportunities and areas of improvement
    • Engage in affiliate and Federationwide opportunities as a representative of the Education department
    • Participate in community collaboratives and meetings to represent Planned Parenthood within the community and engage in supportive work to build relationships with community partners
    • As a mandated reporter, proactively communicate and identify risks to supervisor or appropriate agency in order to minimize risk when possible
    • Comply with PPPSGVs Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations
    • Perform other duties as assigned
