POSITION DETAILS

JOB PURPOSE
Provides guidance and counseling (social, academic, career and financial aid).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assumes the responsibility for individual and group counseling activities and for the maintenance of program files.

Assumes the responsibility for maintaining accurate and confidential records of all participants' contacts and records progress toward matriculation.

Interviews and selects students for participation in the program and the development of cultural activities.

Completes evaluation of academic, personal, and career needs of participants in the program.

Completes Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for assigned students.

Participates in in-serving training, staff development workshops, and departmental meetings.

Prepares monthly reports detailing accomplishments, problems encountered, projections, etc.

Other duties assigned by the Project Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


A minimum of one year working in an educational setting teaching, advising, and/or tutoring students from diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds is required.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


Preference will be given to individuals that have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's targeted population.


MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social sciences, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.


PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree is preferred.


REQUIRED SKILLS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers, and presentation materials.

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development are required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

GRANT-FUNDED:

The Program Advisor position will be funded directly from the TRIO Upward Bound grant awarded by the Department of Education.

This position will be funded solely (100%) from the TRIO Upward Bound allocation through August 31, 2027.

At the end of the grant period, this position may be eliminated unless other sources of funds are secured to maintain this position or a similar position.

The employee must sign this job description acknowledging receipt of the job description and signing their acknowledgment that this position is grant-funded and is temporarily aligning with the terms of the grant period.


Pay:
From $45,000.00 per year
