Reid Park Zoological Society is seeking an unarmed Security Guard. Two years' experience in a security guard position preferred.


The Society is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to create inspiring memories for all by connecting people and animals to ensure the protection of wild animals and wild places.

We provide educational and fun experiences for visitors of all ages. Reid Park Zoo is the largest attended cultural attraction in Southern Arizona with approximately 500,000 visitors annually.

Overview:


The Security Guard is an essential member of the Guest Services team, providing both security and excellent customer service to staff and guests.

They uphold the mission and values of the zoo and adhere to policies and procedures to support everyone in having the most positive and enjoyable experience possible.

Guest Services Manager


Responsibilities:


General Duties

  • Patrols the zoo, gift shop, cafe and parking lot to create a presence. Responds to visitor needs and answers questions and addresses concerns.
  • Helps to clear the zoo of visitors and checks that perimeter gates are locked.
  • Helps with parking control if there is a major event or high guest volume. May help guests find their car in parking lot.
  • Acts as Incident Commander for minor emergencies such as lost children and some guest medical concerns.
  • Maintains visitor and staff confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Cooperates with all Local Law Enforcement Agencies as well as all Government agencies.
  • May investigate and write incident reports and maintain logs.
  • May assist with escorting visitors in or out of the zoo. May assist HR with escorting of terminated employees.
  • May review security camera footage when required.
  • Responds to alarms and dispatched calls for service; decides what actions to take based on situation, facts known and position limitations.
  • Observes safety and security procedures, determines appropriate action beyond guidelines, reports potentially unsafe conditions, uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, supports and explains reasoning for decisions, includes appropriate people in decisionmaking process, makes timely decisions.
  • Displays courtesy and sensitivity, manages difficult or emotional customer situations, meets commitments, responds promptly to customer needs, solicits customer feedback to improve service
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:


  • Minimum high school education or GED required. Minimum of two (2) years in a security position.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona driver's license, or ability to obtain one.
  • CPR/ First Aid certified or willing to get certified.
  • Ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships with others.
  • Dependable and trustworthy.
  • Ability to deal with stressful and sometimes abusive situations.
  • Accurate record keeping ability.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and willing learn new programs as required.
  • Ability to use radio, phone, and computer to communicate. Strong communication skills.
  • Able to work in extreme environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, etc.) for long periods of time, including exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances.
  • Ability to take direction and be quick to act or change direction as needed.
  • Able to lift and carry objects (up to 50+ lbs.). Comfortable walking, sitting, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Dresses appropriately for position, keeps self well groomed.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
