Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with office to understand their speech objectives, key messages, and audience demographics of the district.
- Research and gather relevant information, statistics, and anecdotes to support speech content.
- Develop clear and engaging speech drafts that align with the Council Member's tone, style, and personality.
- Craft compelling openings, transitions, and conclusions that captivate and resonate with the audience.
- Adapt speech content for different platforms and formats, such as live presentations, virtual events, or written articles.
- Work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Speech Writer, Copywriter, Public Relations or Content Creator, with a strong portfolio showcasing impactful speeches or presentations.
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
- Strong research abilities and attention to detail, with the capability to factcheck and verify sources.
- Familiarity with different communication styles and the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in collaboration and communication, with the capacity to work closely with Council Member, Staff, Committee Counsel, and other personnel.
Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders and other parties to support building content for speeches and written communications.
- Organized and detailoriented, demonstrating a commitment to delivering highquality work under pressure while adhering to confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or Associate's degree with comparable job experience.
- Two years of public service experience strongly preferred, such as community organizing, advocacy campaigns, or nonprofit work.
- Previous experience working directly with principals is strongly preferred.
- Possess excellent written, strategic communications, and public speaking abilities.
- Advantageous to have experience with speech delivery coaching or presentation training.
- Exhibit a creative and strategic mindset with a passion for storytelling and effective communication.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage tasks on simultaneous projects, prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain consistent attention to details.
- Display kindness, compassion, and empathy towards the needs of others, particularly constituent groups.
- Capable of effectively managing fastpaced and highly stressful environments, while building constituent relationships and providing exceptional customer service.
- Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or other relevant software tools, or the ability to learn and adapt software for office needs.
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is a plus, though not required.

Pay:
$30.14 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
