About the Role:
The Materials Manager is primarily responsible for the daily activities of the materials and purchasing functions. Reviews purchasing decisions, orders, and vendor contracts.
Oversees the correct material inventory levels and line stocking at point of use in a manufacturing environment and plans accordingly.
Materials Manager verifies the receipt of items and authorizes payment. It is expected to be a resource to other departments as needed to support the operations.Your
Responsibilities:
- Manages the materials and purchasing functions and related activities
- Directly and indirectly supervises Purchasing Agents, materials, and warehouse personnel
- Establishes good safety practices within materials associates
- Maintains records of goods ordered and received
- Leads implementation of Lean: 5s, Kanban, JIT
- Leads Cycle count activities to have high level of inventory accuracy
- Implements inventory control initiatives
- Maintains efficient inventory levels
- Assures material is available at point of use
- Directs and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
- Participates in the development of specifications of equipment, products, and substitute materials
- Fosters close working relationship with associated departments such as Sales, Scheduling, Engineering, Production and Quality; asserts influence throughout the company
- Other duties as assigned
Let's Talk About Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (
Preferred Major:
Materials Management or Purchasing)
- Strong manufacturing experience
- Prefer 10 years of related experience
- APICS-CPIM
- Willingness to work out in the plant
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and handle deadlines under pressure
- Ability to quantify and explain project savings
- Proficient in problemsolving and use of data
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of MRP Systems and Database
- Lean Manufacturing
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft products
