Position Summary


The Manager, Foundation & Government Relations reports to and supports the Director of Foundation & Government Relations in raising over $5 million annually from foundations and federal, state, city, and borough-level government agencies.

This full-time position manages grants, researches and develops funding prospects, and is an integral part of a dynamic Development department charged with supporting the mission and programs of New York City Ballet.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help maintain a portfolio of approximately 60 foundations and government agencies, cultivating existing and new relationships
  • Play a key role in government relations and advocacy, including communicating with the offices of elected officials
  • Lead grant writer for all funder and prospect proposals and reports (approximately 100+ deliverables annually)
  • Assist with major capital grant requests and reporting requirements
  • Meet with staff in Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Education to create proposal and report materials
  • Manage organizationwide data tracking process for largescale reporting purposes
  • Develop program/project budgets in collaboration with Finance, Education, Artistic, and Operations teams
  • Facilitate departmentwide restricted funding tracking against expenses
  • Drive the prospect research process, seeking new funding for annual programs, general operations, special projects, and capital improvement needs
  • Assist with developing strategies to secure new, renewed, and increased support
  • Liaise with funders and Ticket Services to fulfill house seat requests
  • Reconcile monthly and annual revenue and expense accounting
  • Manage usage of Tessitura for foundations and government relations
  • Manage acknowledgement letter process
  • Hire and oversee interns on asneeded basis
  • Staff and attend various Development events and performances
  • Provide support and complete additional projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years relevant fundraising experience
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Selfmotivated, goalfocused, proactive, and flexible
  • Committed to and enthusiastic about the mission, programs and services of NYCB
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines with limited oversight
  • Persuasive and strategic communicator with strong interpersonal skills and problemsolving ability
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently
  • Experience working with Tessitura or related donor database preferred.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to:
  • Office setting
  • Theater and studio settings
  • Offsite meetings

Physical Demands

  • This position regularly requires sitting and standing for long periods of time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position and the hours of work are between 10am - 6pm weekdays. Position requires the ability to participate in donor events and attend performances, including some evenings and weekends. Minimal travel may be required as needed.
