With around students, FOM, Germany's university for working professionals, is one of the largest universities in Europe. It is an initiative of the non-profit Foundation for International Education and Science, based in Essen. FOM offers working professionals and apprentices the opportunity to study without having to interrupt or give up their employment. The range of programs includes more than 50 practice-oriented courses in the fields of Business & Management, Business & Psychology, Business & Law, Health & Social Sciences, IT Management, and Engineering. The courses take place in various study time models at one of over 30 university centers in Germany and Vienna. Starting in the winter semester of 2021, the university for working professionals has also expanded its range of programs to include Digital Live Studies, where lectures are broadcast live from state-of-the-art, multifunctional FOM studios. All live lectures are also recorded in a media library, so they can be accessed for review at any time. This sets new standards in university teaching.

Practical relevance is a top priority at FOM: The university maintains close contact with over cooperation companies, including corporations such as Bertelsmann, IBM, Siemens, and Deutsche Telekom, as well as many medium-sized companies.
