This is a responsible non-exempt position on the staff of Senior Connection Center where exercising good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions is very important.

Adept at interpreting and explaining complex information about the Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE), Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Application (MIPPA) and Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) programs.

Activities include intake and screening potentially eligible individuals for assistance and/or triage duties, which inform eligible or potentially eligible individuals and their families with education about available services offered through the SHINE Department and how to obtain them.


Responsibilities

  • Records and maintain referrals on Google Drive spreadsheet.
  • Accepts referrals from the Elder Helpline, as well as other resources for intake and screening.
  • Updates the appropriate computer database when referrals come from the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC).
  • Collects and maintains accurate demographic information of caller requests using the appropriate computer database.
  • Refers individuals in need of community resource assistance to the Elder Helpline and Long Term Care Services Department.
  • Acts as a consumer advocate by coordinating with DCF/ACCESS staff to resolve in a timely manner any eligibility issues that arise during the MSP eligibility determination process.
  • Attends monthly MIPPA related trainings to stay uptodate on processes and procedures.
  • Develops, compiles and distributes materials to inform individuals about the Medicare savings programs, as well as how, when and where to obtain those benefits.
  • Works with the client and other team members to develop a comprehensive eligibility strategy.
  • Assists other SHINE Specialists, volunteers and agency staff in ensuring consistency when inputting information into the database.
  • Facilitates the onboarding of new clients into the SHINE program by reviewing their intake questionnaire, and completing financial calculations.
  • Generates quality assurance reports for SHINE Specialists and Counselors.
  • Attends community outreach events to advertise SHINE, MIPPA and SMP services.
  • Conducts presentations after successfully passing the SHINE Presentation.
  • Assists with requests from the SHINE volunteers.
  • Performs related tasks as assigned by supervisory staff and Senior Management.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Minimum education and related experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree; or
  • Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience; or
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent and four (4) years of experience
  • Successful completion of applicable background screening required.
  • Any exceptions to the minimum requirements must be approved by the President and CEO.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Will obtain a passing score of 80% or higher on the SHINE Basic Training program exam within 6 months of date of hire and a passing score of the SHINE Presentation Skills class within 12 months of date of hire.
  • Ability to communicate well, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to research topics related to services for older adults (funding, program design, etc.), analyze data and provide written and/or oral reports as required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Basic skill level and knowledge of MS Office Suite including MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and database creation and maintenance either in Excel, Access or the appropriate Google Workspace(G Suite).
  • Must be able to proofread documents with careful attention to detail for spelling, typographical errors and grammar.
  • Able to set priorities, meet deadlines and organize tasks effectively.
  • Must be detail oriented, selfmotivated, with the ability to work with mínimal direction.
  • Must be able to multitask effectively and efficiently to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Must not hold a state license to sell insurance including, but not limited to, health, annuity, and life.

Pay:
$19.26 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
