The Mill Lab Technician is responsible for the mechanical/chemistry testing and sample preparation for mill production orders to ensure conformity to API, ASTM/Customer specifications.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances.

Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats.

Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.


  • Qualifications
:

1.1. A High School diploma and minimum of 1 year of experience with mechanical and chemistry testing preferred.

1.2. Knowledgeable experience with the latest edition of API 5CT,5L, ASTM & ISO requirements.

1.3. Exceptional reading, writing of English as well as solid arithmetic skills.

1.4. Ability to organize vast amounts of data and multi-task several priorities with excellent time management.

1.5. Capable of working MS Office suite especially Excel as well as the ability to grasp an ERP System.

1.6. Visibility of work requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and discretion with confidential information.

1.7. Employee must be able to work with a flexible or rotating schedule which may require over-time when needed.


  • Responsibilities
:

2.1. Maintain organization of all testing records and documents.

2.2. Maintain familiarity with the BPU product, policies and procedures.

2.3. Responsible for all mechanical/chemistry testing and sample preparation for mill production orders to insure conformity to API, ASTM/Customer specifications.

2.4. Responsible to verify testing results vs. work order to determining passing or failing

2.5. Responsible for ensuring the Operation team receives feedback of defect analysis.

2.6. Serve as a back-up for Finishing Line Inspectors when necessary.

2.7. Responsible for communicating results of evaluations and testing with the production operators and managers.

2.8. Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.


  • Activities
:

3.1. Perform weld evaluation and identify defects on material that is rejected by BPU or our customers.

3.2. Perform mechanical and chemistry testing and sample preparation for the Pipe Mill.

3.3. Help train personnel working in the lab, and insure lab is maintained in impeccable order.

3.4. Report any discrepancies on reports to Supervisor.

3.5. Follow procedures and ensure proper paper work is being used.

3.6. Verify calibration and working condition of measuring equipment against standards.

3.7. This position may require operating a Forklift and Overhead Crane.

3.8. Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.

3.9. Other duties as assigned.


  • Authority and Obligation
:

4.1. This position has the authority to stop production at any time that is deemed necessary.
