JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION

CUSTODIAN

DEFINITION OF POSITION

Under general supervision of the site principal, to perform routine cleaning work in school, office or district buildings; and to do related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Working from a prepared work schedule, sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors; vacuums rugs and carpets in offices, nurse's and faculty rooms, classrooms, shop buildings, gymnasiums, libraries, recreation rooms, auditoriums, dining rooms, cafeterias, hallways, ramps, and stairways
Cleans and dusts walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment
Picks up paper and other refuse outside buildings on cleaning route and sweeps walks, and entrances, as needed
Cleans windows, door glass, and drinking fountains
Cleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and hand railings
Empties and cleans waste containers
Assists in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipment
Replaces lights or light fixture covers
Maintains equipment used in the course of work
Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to site principal
Informs day custodian of minor repairs or adjustments needed to classroom furniture
During winter, spring, and summer breaks, performs the duties of the

Custodian/Maintenance/Grounds employee

Related custodial duties as assigned by principal or District administrator

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential duties require, but are not limited to the following physical abilities (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation, with or without the use of aids):

Sufficient vision to read printed materials, adjust focus, and perceive distances and depth
Sufficient mobility to stoop, reach, climb, kneel and move about
Use hands and fingers to feel and grasp
Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Possess a valid California Driver's license

Fingerprint clearance prior to employment
TB clearance prior to employment
Pass a District physical upon employment
Read, write and speak English at a level required to safely perform job duties

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to: _
Safely use cleaning agents, materials and equipment required to complete assigned tasks
Understand and follow a work schedule and verbal and written directions
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during performance of job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in classroom, school office, or school campus. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

EDUCATION
Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade (High School Diploma or GED)

Pay:
$ $23.53 per hour
