About The Job:

Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a SBA Relationship Manager. This position primarily drives new Small Business Administration (SBA) loan portfolio growth.

Responsible for external and internal business development, pre-screening applicants for SBA eligibility, and assisting the SBA Loan Portfolio Manager with underwriting and portfolio management responsibilities.

May also act as the bank's back-up SBA Lending Officer.


MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

External Business Development
Position will dedicate at least 50% of sales activities to proactive client prospecting.

Target clients will be closely held businesses that would benefit from funding for expansion, acquisition, real estate/equipment purchase, or working capital through the SBA 7a, Express, CAPLines, and 504 loan programs.

Prospecting is mainly done through cold-calling, networking, and building centers of influence.

Internal Business Development


Position will work closely with lending teams in Retail/Business Banking, Commercial Banking, and Government Contracting to win additional business through successful use of SBA's credit enhancement capability.

High degree of accountability to serving internal referral sources, acting as a point of contact for potential clients, championing loans through to settlement, and educating lenders on up-to-date best practices, policies, and procedures.

Pre-Screening Applicants
Position will make initial eligibility determination for externally and internally generated business, prior to engaging with underwriting and credit. Must be, and stay, proficient in SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Sandy Spring Bank credit and risk policies.

Portfolio Management


Position will be responsible for servicing existing and self-generated loan portfolio, and will assist other lending teams with managing SBA loans within their portfolios.

Position will work with SBA Loan Portfolio Manager to ensure SOP is followed to protect the bank from repairs against its guarantees

Back-up SBA Lending Officer
Position maybe required to act as the bank's SBA Lending Officer and represent the bank in such activities.

Required Skills:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Work requires broad level of professional experience in SBA lending, commercial banking, retail/business banking, and/or underwriting. Level will be commensurate with related work experience, demonstrated performance ability, and size and complexity of the portfolio. Position requires 810 years of experience in SBA lending, commercial banking, and/or business banking. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must have excellent ability to speak, read, and write English to express ideas effectively, in order to comprehend nuances and be fully understood by clients and internal partners. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to relate to and empathize with other people and to maintain a professional, friendly, and courteous demeanor throughout the day. Work requires high degree of team collaboration and regular contact with diverse groups internally and externally.
  • Utilize standard PC based software (Microsoft Office) and webbased Customer Relationship Management software.

SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required
