CUSTODIAN
Job Description

DEFINITION
To be responsible for the care, upkeep, and cleaning of an assigned school facility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a School Principal, or the Business Manager.
Technical of functional supervision may be provided by a Lead Custodian.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not

limited to, the following:

Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip and polish floors.
Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.
Wash windows and walls.
Clean desks and countertops.
Empty and clean waste receptacles.
Clean and maintain supplies in restrooms.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up rooms for special meetings or events.
Replace lights and adjust shades and blinds.
Regulate ventilation and temperature.
Lock and unlock doors, and secure school facilities as necessary.
Pick up papers and other debris.
Maintain custodial supplies and equipment.
Perform a variety of errands.
Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
Safe work practices.

ABILITY TO:
Perform all physical aspects of assigned duties, including stooping, lifting, reaching,
climbing ladders, and moving furniture.

Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.

Use a variety of custodial equipment and materials

Work an assigned shift as necessary.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contracted in the
course of work.

Work independently in the absence of supervision.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely
provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical
way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be six months of experience in janitorial work.

Required:
cover letter, resume, and two (2) letters of professional recommendations. Valid CA driver's license and social security card. Valid TB test less than 4 years
