    About the Controller

    The Controller, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will lead Eat. Learn. Play.'s daily accounting and finance operations, contributing significantly to strengthening our Finance team and advancing our mission. We seek a proactive Controller with exceptional attention to detail and strategic thinking abilities, capable of driving substantial process enhancements. Adaptability is essential in our dynamic, growth-oriented environment. The Controller will oversee a team of one, offering a unique chance to join a collaborative, mission-driven organization addressing crucial challenges.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable (including credit card processing), general ledger, grant and fund accounting, procurement, fixed assets, and other balance sheet items.
    • Ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end closing procedures.
    • Conduct monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, cross-referencing with independent sources when available.
    • Establish and enforce robust internal controls and compliance with accounting policies and procedures, fostering a culture of organizational control.
    • Manage, motivate, mentor, evaluate, and retain a staff of one; ensure that the department has high morale and an excellent reputation within the organization.
    • Identify and drive substantial process improvements to automate and streamline daily operations, both internally and externally, contributing to overall operational enhancements.
    • Manage charitable solicitation registrations through contracted processors, ensuring timely and comprehensive submission of required information.
    • File all mandatory reports and payments with regulatory and tax authorities.
    • Oversee the annual independent financial audit and any requisite grant audits.
    • Provide necessary data for ELP's annual tax and informational return filings.
    • Prepare financial reports as requested by the CFO, including routine monthly financial reporting.
    • Collaborate with the CFO on weekly forecasts encompassing income, expenses, and cash flow.
    • Conduct ad-hoc financial and business analyses as requested by the CFO.
    • Assist the CFO in preparing the annual organization-wide budget.
    • Perform other responsibilities as needed and assigned by the CFO.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field at a minimum.
    • Minimum of six years of accounting and finance experience, with at least two years in a Controller or Finance Director role.
    • Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and mentoring abilities.
    • Proficient knowledge of GAAP and experience in managing independent audits.
    • Familiarity with non-profit and unrestricted/restricted fund accounting.
    • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online is highly desired.
    • Advanced Excel skills with acute attention to detail for effective data communication.
    • Proven track record of project and task planning, execution, and timely delivery.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication capabilities, along with effective teamwork skills.
    • Adaptability to a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative entrepreneurial environment.
