***: Provides direction for the program and implements program curriculum. Delivers a high-quality child-development program and mentors teachers and aides.

Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Implements curriculum and program activities within the established guidelines.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Supervises the children, classroom or site, and all activities to ensure curriculum matches children ages and skill set.
  • Follows all policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Supervises all site staff in the absence of the site director.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment when directed by the site director.
  • Continuously scans a variety of environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them, and informs senior staff.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Uses positive reinforcement techniques to address children's behavioral concerns.
  • Supervises and mentors aides and teachers.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Mentors a minimum of 3 staff or more.
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings and completes all assigned on-line trainings.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, as well as program activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Meets at least one of the following:
a. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law - completion with passing grades of at least 12 (twelve) postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education
classes.

Units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum.

In
additional has a minimum of 18 (eighteen) months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
b.

Has a Bachelor's degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development and a minimum of 6 (six) months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.


  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
  • For licensed programs, knowledge of California childcare licensing regulations.
  • Ability to build a relationship with school staff.
  • Ability to work productively in teams, task forces and planning groups.
  • Ability to run daily functions of site in site director's absence.
  • Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • All required online training must be completed before starting work.
  • Mandated reporting course completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization. Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  • Must have Health and TB clearance.
  • Must have up to date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
