    JOB SUMMARY

    Applies professional diversity, equity and inclusion concepts and cultural competencies knowledge to actively promote and help create a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant culture at the Genomics Institute and on the UCSC campus. Provides support to the director of the Genomics Institute (GI) Office of Diversity (GIOD) with student outreach and engagement. Works independently and as part of a team to plan and implement inclusive educational programs and events. Creates effective and compelling communication and marketing materials to reach a diverse audience of students in collaboration with Genomics Institute communications manager. Recruits, empowers, and promotes success of students who have faced barriers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and educational environments.

    APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

    Budgeted Salary: $35.11/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
    Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

    JOB DUTIES

    40% - Outreach, Engagement, and Communication

    Recruits and on boards undergraduate scholarship recipients.
    Implements outreach programs with specifically targeted students from under-represented and under-served communities who have historically faced barriers in education, STEM, or Social Sciences.
    Initiates and arranges student recruitment events to attract students from other institutions to UCSC.
    In coordination with GI communications manager and Genomics Institute, Office of Diversity (GIOD) director, produces social media marketing materials, news announcements, and other program communication materials.
    Administers scholar program by managing contracts, participant IDs, payment forms, registration & travel for conferences.
    Assists with growing high school student outreach program.
    35% - Diversity Program and Administrative Support

    Helps director manage the day-to-day administrative aspects of the GIOD.
    Assists with the planning of a student summer research program.
    Compiles and submits accurate diversity, equity and inclusion statistical reporting to funding agencies.
    Helps with proposal tasks and post award program coordination and reporting for new programs.
    Provides support to the director and PI with conceptualizing and drafting components of grant proposals for funds that specifically relate to diversity, equity and inclusion outreach and retention.
    25% - Event Planning and Execution

    Coordinates, plans, and implements student events, such as professional development workshops, fundraisers, and recruitment events.
    Registers scholars for conferences and coordinates participation.
    Coordinate scheduling, reimbursement forms, travel arrangements, outreach, interface with speaker for bios/photos, reserve rooms food, and media.
    Identifies workshops and other programming idea, interfaces with scholars to see their needs.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and/or training.
    Multicultural competencies, ability to work with diverse populations, and a commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus culture.
    Working knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and accessibility programs.
    Excellent organizational, time management skills with the ability to multitask.
    Analytical skills with the ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
    Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
    Strong verbal communication skills.
    Strong written communication skills.
    Strong interpersonal skills with active listening skills.
    Good computer knowledge including MS Office, Google Sheets, Docs, Forms, etc.

    Ability to work as an effective member of a team.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of University processes and procedures.
    Basic understanding of budget management, grant management and compliance.
    Bilingual in Spanish and English.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
    Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
    Will be required to work all scheduled hours on-site.
    Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
    Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
    Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
