Position Summary
The Development Manager works with the Executive Director, Staff and Volunteers to achieve fundraising and development goals.

The Development Manager oversees all aspects of fundraising:
including the annual fund, database management, special events, some grants management and other fundraising strategies. Applicants should possess patience, flexibility, compassion and curiosity.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • With the Executive Director, develop and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations; special focus on stewardship of current individual donors, foundations, etc.
  • Manage annual fundraising campaigns including the Annual Appeals
  • Oversee and expand corporate funding sources, volunteerism and participation in READ events and initiatives.
  • Assist in managing READ's donor database and gift processing
  • Oversee and expand the existing READ Center fundraising events (Great Richmond Trivia Bee, A Moveable Feast, etc).
  • Provide regular and consistent fundraising reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Create and maintain development plans, reports and processes; if necessary, make recommendations to improve development efforts, plans and reports.
  • Identify longterm funding strategies for reaching development goals to ensure the sustainability of READ.
  • Alongside READ staff, champion the mission of READ serving as a spokesperson for the organization when applicable.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • 3 years' experience in nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • A selfstarter who is adaptable, versatile and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Skilled in active listening and in making evidencebased decisions
  • Set high performance standards and holds themself accountable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with attention to detail
  • High level of personal and professional integrity; experience working with diverse populations
  • Ability to solve problems, adapt to changing context, and work effectively with little supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; strong goal and teamwork orientation, and the ability to work in a complex, small nonprofit environment
  • Travel within the Greater Richmond Metro Area and some evening/weekend work is required
  • Proficiency in the use of fundraising and development software systems like Donor Databases, Mailchimp, etc.

General Definition and Conditions of Work:
Work requires sitting for sustained periods of time, walking and light lifting, up to 10 pounds.


Pay:
From $70,000.00 per year
