- Sanitize and clean treatment rooms, kennel areas, and equipment including runs, cages, walls, doors, and floors; maintain cleanliness of play yard areas
- Provide food and water to animals; monitor their intake and waste, reporting any changes to the Animal Shelter Manager
- Exhibit excellent customer relations with both internal and external customers
- Administer vaccines, medications, and prepare animals for surgery; schedule and administer medications as needed
- Adhere to daily exercise schedules for animals
- Observe behavior and characteristics of animals, promptly notifying supervisors of any changes
- Laundry duties including washing, drying, and folding; maintain cleanliness of dishes, toys, and litter pans used by animals
- Monitor and manage inventory of animals, equipment, cleaning supplies, and animal necessities
- Record and update animal profiles in shelter software; conduct screenings of animals and update their profiles accordingly
- Assist in animal adoption processes, provide information to owners of lost animals, and help with transferred animals
- Perform other assigned duties as required
- High School diploma or GED certificate and at least one year of experience in an animal shelter; or a suitable combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of animal care and feeding procedures, humane animal handling, and housing; ability to interpret animal behavior signals
- Basic computer skills, customer service skills, and ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Efficient work habits with the capability to communicate clearly, learn shelter procedures, software, and safety protocols; establish good working relationships with various individuals
- Hold and maintain a valid Texas driver's license, Class C or higher
- Clear a pre-employment physical and drug screen test, and background investigation
- Willingness to work beyond 40 hours per week if needed
- Work outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions and temperature fluctuations
- Potentially encounter insects, animal bites, liquids, cramped spaces, dust, and other environmental factors
- Handle animals of unknown backgrounds and temperaments
- Lift items weighing 10-60 pounds frequently, and heavier items occasionally
- Engage in office communication and computer operation regularly
- Remain stationary and able to fulfill physical job requirements
