MISSION OF THE POSITION:


The Microbiologist is responsible for the correct performance of dedicated and related microbiology analysis, scientific research and to investigate the growth, structure, development, and other characteristics of microscopic organisms, such as pathogens, mold, bacteria, algae, or fungi among other microorganisms.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


  • Reception and acceptance criteria of samples received within method requirements and compliance with FDA's Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) among other Microbiology References.
  • Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in prescribed or developed media, controlling moisture, aeration, temperature, and nutrition.
  • Examine physiological, morphological, and cultural characteristics, using a microscope to identify and classify microorganisms in different matrices such as food, water, environmental or any other type of samples of interest.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations, based upon result outcomes.
  • Log all relevant data in Laboratory Information Management System, for use in customer reports and quality control.
  • Work alongside all CYCAT staff to support customers and accreditation needs.
  • Complete customer ordered testing in addition to monitoring laboratory conditions to support the operation of a safe and effective laboratory.
  • Use a variety of specialized equipment required for the adequate performance in the area according to the latest approved and recognized microbiology methods.
  • Use all Safety Equipment correctly and efficiently.
  • Ensure the correct handling and disposal of materials and samples before and after the analytical process including the correct and proper handling of hazardous materials, sterilization, and final disposal.
  • Use the latest Microbiology techniques including Molecular Techniques or Maldi TOF among others.
  • Ensure the correct use and registration of samples and analytical process in compliance with ISO 17025.
  • Certify the correct use, calibration and maintenance of instruments used in the analytical process in compliance with ISO 17025.
  • Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify data and prepare reports for Technical Lab Manager.
  • Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards of the safety and quality programs.
  • Cultivate micro-organisms for study and testing.
  • Prepare biological samples for testing or analysis and perform analysis using laboratory equipment.
  • Research microbiological or chemical processes, official methods, or structures.
  • Classify organisms based on their characteristics or behavior.
  • Prepare scientific or technical reports or presentations.
  • Develop new or advanced methods.
  • Examine characteristics or behavior of living organisms.
  • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, and maintain information according to Quality procedures.
  • Identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Identify the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
  • Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Use either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
  • Monitor and control resources and overseeing the spending of money

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build Cycat in accordance with the requirements of ISO 17025 to obtain accreditation.
  • Maintain CYCAT ́s internal procedures and software such as LIMS, Qualtrax or any other support software used in the company.
  • Maintain the analytical area with everyday cleaning procedures and with all the proper work finished accordingly to the Microbiology responsibilities.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering or another related Chemistry or Biological sciences discipline required; Master's degree or higher strongly preferred

Advanced knowledge of ISO 17025 acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.


EXPERIENCE
3 years of experience with Microbiology testing in accordance with FDA's Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM)

Experience with ISO 17025 required

Knowledge of plant and animal orga
