JOB SUMMARY:

The Penn State Children's Hospital is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one the Best Children's Hospital across multiple specialties.

As a designated Level 1 Children's Surgery Center, the hospital is just one of eight in the nation, and the only one in Pennsylvania, to achieve this designation through the American College of Surgeons Children's Surgery Verification Program.


The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has received the highest rating for care, placing us among the best in the world.

Registered Nurses in the PICU are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to Patients ranging from newborns to 18 years of age.

Our wide variety of patient types and advanced therapies include trauma, pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, ECMO, oscillator, nitric oxide therapy and research.


SUMMARY OF POSITION:


The Staff Nurse, RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients.

The nurse will establish goals and priorities of nursing care. The nurse will develop a written plan of nursing care which includes patient education and discharge planning. The staff nurse will be responsible for documentation of care given with patient progress. The RN will work collaboratively with the medical staff in matters of patient care.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):


Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.

AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period


PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

PICU experience


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
