Description:
The Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts (VCUarts) is looking for responsible and motivated individuals to join as counselors and senior counselors for the Summer Pre-College Program for High School Students.
Program Dates:July - 26, 2024
Overview:
The counseling team aims to deliver an exceptional experience for each high school participant. All counselors will be actively present on campus, assisting students throughout the weekdays and weekends over the three-week program. Specific on-campus schedules will vary based on assigned shifts. Some counselors will reside on campus during the program.
Counselors act as representatives of the University and the School of the Arts to host students and their families. Attendance at all training sessions and meetings with the Residence Life Head and Program Director is mandatory.
Daily duties involve guiding students to and from campus facilities, meals, classes, organizing evening activities, and supervising weekend trips and group functions. Senior Counselors have additional responsibilities such as leading training sessions, supporting and guiding counselors, and addressing student and counselor issues.
Training:
All counselors must participate in online trainings in late June and attend an in-person session on July 6th.
Required Qualifications:
Preference given to applicants:
(1) VCU School of the Arts graduate students, rising junior or senior undergraduates, and alumni
(2) Previous residence hall assistant experience
(3) Summer camp involvement with high school students
(4) Teaching background
