Duties:


  • Coordinate daily transportation procedures for pick up/delivery of linen to and from laundry with Motor Vehicle Operator.
  • Ensure that adequate supply of linen is issued to cover weekends and holidays.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and adherence to good safety practices and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
  • Maintain the Linen Storage Area records of receipt and issue of all linen supplies.
  • Assemble turnin items, i.e., equipment to be salvaged/repaired.
  • Maintain the linen cart liners by repairing rips, tears and snags and replace the waist band drawstrings on the surgical scrub trousers.
  • Schedule semiannual inventories of all hospital linen used in a patient care environment.

  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
  • This position requires the completion of a preemployment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Selectee will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis (TB) testing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):Ability to do the work of a(n) Linen Service Worker ~

  • Ability to perform common workrelated operations to include receipt, storage, alteration, issue, and shipment of linen items; analyzing instructions received to assure all personnel and materials; oversee the coordinating of daily transportation procedures for pick up/delivery of linen to and from laundry utilizing a motor vehicle and materials; ensure that equipment are available at the work site.
    Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent bends, stands, stoops and moves arms in handling bundles of linen, packages, or pushing carts which require handling of weight up to 200 pounds and picking up bundles of weight of approximately 40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:The majority of the work is performed inside a well ventilated, lighted and heated area. May be required to ride in vehicles in clement/inclement weather. Exposed to dirt, dust, and possibility of physical injury (e.g., cuts, scrapes, bruises).
