    Summary

    A fiberglass technician or fabricator will support ongoing projects by working with castable materials to create custom forms, parts, and molds.

    Location: Jackson, WI

    Shift: M – TH; 6:00am – 6:30pm & F 6:00 AM-4:30PM; Currently mandatory 58 hour weeks. Saturday hours available in leu of 12 hour shifts. Mandatory over time is not permanent schedule but is effective until further notice. Standard schedule is a 40 hour work week.

    Employment Type: Direct hire; non-exempt

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Release air bubbles and smooth seams, using rollers.
    2. Spray chopped fiberglass, resins, and catalysts onto prepared molds or dies.
    3. Select precut fiberglass mats, cloth, and wood-bracing materials as required by projects being assembled.
    4. Pat or press layers of saturated mat or cloth into place on molds, using brushes or hands, and smooth out wrinkles and air bubbles with hands or squeegees.
    5. Mix catalysts into resins, and saturate cloth and mats with mixtures, using brushes.
    6. Apply layers of plastic resin to mold surfaces prior to placement of fiberglass mats, repeating layers until products have the desired thicknesses and plastics have jelled.
    7. Check completed products for conformance to specifications and for defects.
    8. Apply lacquers and waxes to mold surfaces to facilitate assembly and removal of laminated parts.
    9. Check all dies, templates, and cutout patterns to be used in the manufacturing process to ensure that they conform to dimensional data, photographs, blueprints, samples, or customer specifications.
    10. Inspect, clean, and prepare molds before beginning work.
    11. Repair or modify damaged or defective glass-fiber parts, checking thicknesses, densities, and contours to ensure a close fit after repair.
    12. Cure materials by letting them set at room temperature, placing them under heat lamps, or baking them in ovens.
    13. Trim cured materials by sawing them with diamond-impregnated cutoff wheels.
    14. Adhere to all safety requirements and equipment guidelines.
    15. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
    16. Perform other tasks as assigned.

    Knowledge and Skill

    • Some high school; or a combination of education and experience.
    • Basic understanding of fiberglass application processes.
    • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as layouts, blueprints, sketches, and maintenance instructions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees in the organization.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and circumference.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Physical Demands

    • Use hands to handle or feel; stand; walk; climb or balance; stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
    • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
    • Lift 70 lbs. floor to waist; lift 90 lbs. waist to chest; lift 25 lbs. chest to overhead; carry 50 lbs. over a distance of 50 ft.; push a 100 lbs. wheeled cart over a distance of 100 ft.; and drag 50 lbs. over a distance of 100 ft.

    Work Environment

    • Exposed to typical noises and smells associated with the production environment, such as exposure to fumes or airborne particles and production machinery. Noise level is moderate to loud.
