    Description

    The Tech performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure.

    This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined.

    Shift Details:
    Full-time, 40 hours/week. 4x10 hour shifts/week. Monday - Friday, 6:45 a.m. - Department: General Surgery, St. Joseph Hospital (Denver, Colorado)

    You bring your body, mind, heart and spirit to your work as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) in the Cardiovascular Operating Room.

    Bariatric, Robotics, General Surgery, Ortho, Neuro, OB-GYN and CV, including open heart cases.

    Heart valve replacement – Our expert heart surgeons use traditional and minimally invasive procedures to repair or replace heart valves that are not functioning properly.

    ASD and PFO closures – Procedures to treat these congenital heart defects , often found in children.

    Maze procedure – Surgical procedure for chronic Afib that creates a new "maze" of electrical pathways that can restore normal heart rhythm.

    TAVR – Transcatheter aortic valve replacement places a mechanical valve in the place of a damaged aortic valve and typically involves shorter recovery times than traditional open heart surgery.

    Assist in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Count sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper techn ique and established policy.

    Handle specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and recom mended standards of practice.

    Assist with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies and equipment. Care fo r instruments and equipment.
    Graduation of a formal, accredited Surgical Technologist program, required

    At least one (1) year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital, preferred

    Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

    Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
    Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
