Duties:


The Information Technology Specialist, located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Management and Administration, Information Technology (IT) and Data Analysis Division, IT Support Section.

The Section is responsible for development, implementation, evaluation, and administration of OIG information systems, technical assistance, network systems management, and service desk & asset management for OIG personnel and offices nationwide.


The incumbent administers, develops, delivers, and supports information technology systems and services which require knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods.

Acts as a liaison between OIG and Office of Information & Technology personnel.

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13.

If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.


  • Provide all OIG customers a single point of contact for all Information Technology questions, support and communication.
  • Deliver a full range of customer support services. Installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades software and hardware. Diagnoses and resolves complex problems in response to customer reported incidents.
  • Configures and optimizes network servers, hubs, routers, and switches. Diagnoses and resolves network problems.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Qualifications:


  • You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • For the GS11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS09grade level in the Federal service.
  • Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Completing computer project assignments that are directly related to IT support,
    AND:
  • Diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer reported incidents;
    AND:
  • Providing leadership for timely completion of tasks.

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

  • In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
