- Supervises Engineering Inspectors in conducting systematic quality control inspections of all new and improved construction of infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, sanitary sewer systems, and storm drainage systems.
- Directs, organizes, implements, and coordinates the activities related to the engineering inspection operations.
- Trains, supports, and assists inspection staff in completing utility locates.
- Performs on-site inspection of public and specific private infrastructure construction and maintenance.
- Coordinates the inspection process though the interpretation and application of relevant codes, policies, specifications, and standards.
- Manages and tracks the daily inspection needs of the Engineering Division of Public Works, and private utility companies working in the right-of-way.
- Oversees and coordinates construction projects with city staff, contractors, maintenance workers, and others to ensure projects are completed on time.
- Provides guidance on construction practices, pre-construction meetings, and construction progress reporting to inspection staff.
- Interprets city construction specifications and details and ensures projects are completed in accordance with city codes and regulations.
- Provides interpretation, explanations, and clarifications of, as well as information on, adopted codes and ordinances to inspectors, engineers, contractors and the public.
- Ensures inspections are conducted thoroughly and documented in accordance with established procedures, city criteria, and other applicable standards.
- Coordinates processes and assignments with the Public Works Permit Specialist.
- Serves as a liaison for engineering activities pertaining to construction, including capital improvement projects and active permit construction.
- Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental policies, procedures, and standards to ensure assigned functions are effective and efficient.
- Communicates with developers, consultants and stakeholders to ensure understanding and compliance with regulations.
- Assists in resolving disputes between the city, developers, contractors, and citizens during construction of public improvements.
- Addresses inquiries from other departments and the public; ensure all requests for information are handled promptly and properly.
- Ensures construction in Littleton Rights of Way conforms with erosion and sediment control, traffic control, site safety, and other engineering-related requirements.
- Collaborates in the preparation of stormwater and water quality reports, project specifications, cost estimates, constructability reviews, plan preparation, material submittals, test results and residential correspondence as applicable.
- Completes assignments on time with limited supervision. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Manages the completion of initial and final warranty inspection processes for permitted projects.
- May serve as an emergency worker.

- Five (5) years of experience in material testing, site/right-of-way construction inspection or a closely related field, including experience in developing, monitoring, and regulating project budgets; and three (3) years of supervisory or team lead experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
- Certification in intermediate or advanced level asphalt or concrete testing/inspection.
- Certification as a traffic control supervisor.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical.
- Associate degree in construction management and or additional education and training in engineering or surveying is preferred.
- Expert knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and equipment of construction inspection.
- Expert knowledge of construction traffic safety practices and soils and materials testing. Able to identify deficiencies in work zone safety; identify substandard materials.

The City of Littleton is excited to announce a new opportunity for an Engineering Inspector Supervisor.
Public Works Engineering Inspectors conduct systematic on-site inspections of public and selected private infrastructure construction. The responsibilities include performing utility locates, acting as a point of contact for various stakeholders, coordinate and lead pre-construction meetings, and preparing construction progress reports. The role also includes addressing citizen complaints and inquiries, checking infrastructure for compliance with specifications, and documenting daily activities, quantity calculations, and correspondence.
The Engineering Inspector Supervisor performs the Senior Engineering Inspector duties as well as supervises the inspectors as a lead role in guiding and overseeing the work of the inspection team through the interpretation and application of related policies, specifications, and standards. The supervisor monitors the performance of inspectors, ensures adherence to safety practices, collaborates with the Public Works Permit Specialist, and recommends, establishes, and implements goals and objectives for the inspection team. This role is a primary point of contact for public infrastructure construction activities throughout the city.
The ideal candidate is organized, dynamic, team-oriented, and successful at managing multiple priorities. Communication, customer service, and a willingness to work alongside the inspection staff are foundational in this role. The ideal candidate emphasizes and values thorough documentation of activities. Experience in managing, inspecting, and overseeing utility and road construction is an asset to the role.
The City of Littleton plans to design and construct $50M in roadway, drainage, and utility projects in the next three years; the city also averages more than 700 right-of-way permits and 8,000 utility locates annually. This role will lead and assist the inspection staff in completing the various inspections and locates, assuring construction of public infrastructure meets specifications, locates are performed to protect city utilities, and promoting safety in work zones.

Starting pay range $90,350 - $99,900 per year
