Technical Competencies:
Knowledge within the Mechanical Engineering discipline specialty with the capability and the initiative to perform tasks with minimal supervisory/mentor assistanceUnderstanding and ability to apply basic fundamentals in Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer in various type of Plant utility systemsTechnical skills and an ability to perform all aspects of mechanical design, including fixed and rotating equipment for heavy industries, Oil & Gas processes, material handling, plumbing, or HVACUnderstand when to seek additional guidance from the department manager, mentor or discipline lead on project/process issues and when to research the solution independentlyAbility to communicate complicated issues in a simple mannerUnderstand PFD and P&ID symbology, layout, standards and workflowCheck P&ID's modifications against AutoCAD standards for Oil & Gas processes and non-process utility systemsExecute P&ID walk-down efforts or field verification of P&ID's and develop demolition P&ID'sDevelop, and maintain Drawing list, Line lists, Equipment lists, and Specialty Items listsFamiliarity with industry codes and standardsRead, understand, and utilize piping isometrics and plot plans in order to perform design calculationsPerform hydraulic calculations for vapor and liquid systemsPerform and document calculations that can be easily checkedUnderstand types of pressure relief devices, sizing calculations, and specificationsDevelop simple equipment data sheetsUnderstand the hierarchy of documents generated and reviewed by mechanical engineerUnderstand the typical instrumentation types and their principles of operationAccurately check work produced at an Engineer I skill levelStrong Microsoft Office skills and experience using specialty mechanical engineering software such as AFT Fathom, PipeFlo, PV Elite, E-Tank 2000 and Trace 700.
Preparing for professional registration Knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and basic knowledge of 3D AutoCADPeople Skills:
