Purpose of the Position

OPEN UNTIL FILLED. Applications will be reviewed as received.**Performs evaluations, assessments, and support to Juvenile Court Therapists. The incumbent will conduct assessments for private parental severance cases in accordance with ARS 8-536, aid in the implementation of Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) and provide an assessment of need for families involved in the juvenile court system. Incumbent demonstrates expertise in assessments, evaluations, court procedures, and behavioral health interventions to address the complex needs of families navigating the legal and behavioral health systems.


Essential Functions

  • Facilitate the judge's decisionmaking process by providing a comprehensive assessment and/or evaluations in parental severance cases.
  • Contribute to the overall wellbeing and rehabilitation of families through the implementation of Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy and appropriate mental health assessments when needed. Provide quality assurance assistance to the Director of Therapeutic Services.
  • Perform indepth assessments of the biological parents, custodial and noncustodial parents, and any other relevant individuals involved in the child's life.
  • Evaluate the home environment, parenting skills, and the overall suitability of each parent to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the child.
  • Conduct interviews with the parties involved, including parents, caregivers, and children, to gather relevant information and perspectives.
  • Review case documents, court records, and any other pertinent information to form a comprehensive understanding of the case.
  • Work collaboratively with licensed therapists to implement components of the Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy model.
  • Provide support in a variety of ways including case management, basic skills training and navigating the Pima County Juvenile Court system for best outcomes for children and families.
  • Coordinate with legal professionals, therapists, case managers, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless integration of assessments, evaluations, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Attend court hearings and present findings, providing expert testimony when required.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports, evaluations, assessments, and social study (in accordance with ARS reports for the court.
  • Document interactions with families in Multidimensional Family Therapy program while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical guidelines.
  • Familiar with relevant laws, regulations, and therapeutic models, integrating this knowledge into conducting appropriate evaluations, assessments, and social studies.
  • Performs other duties or participates in projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, criminal justice or a related field with demonstrated familiarity with basic mental health interventions, case management and community support.

Or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
Familiarity with outlined areas may be gained through additional education and workshops, documented formal internships, or work-experience.

Preference may be given to those fluent in both English and Spanish.

Preference may be given to those who have at least two (2) years of paid experience providing direct services as outlined above.

Must have a valid Arizona Driver's license at the time of appointment.


Physical/Sensory Items:

Typically performs duties in an office environment and may lift materials and/or equipment 20 lbs. or less.

  • Working conditions are various office and Detention Unit settings; involves the potential for high stress levels and exposure to hostile situations; some nonstandard work hours are required.
  • Must work with a clinically challenging client population; must be able to read and respond to subtle behavioral clues, and maintain professional composure and effectiveness.
