The technician must have a broad knowledge of animal science, veterinary medicine, and animal husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses.

They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, administer, and monitor animals under anesthesia, and assist in critical surgery.

The technician would be primarily dedicated to triaging critical patients, completing outpatient treatments, & providing exceptional inpatient care for our hospitalized patients being treated for a variety of critical conditions.


Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • High school or equivalent (preferred)
  • Veterinary experience: 1 year (required)
  • Veterinary Technician Certification (Preferred but not required)
  • Ability to work varying shifts including weekends, holidays & overnights.
  • Above average proficiency with keyboarding, PC's, Microsoft Office, & common computer software/hardware.
  • Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, & divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, ratios, & percentages.
  • Verbal & written communication that is clear, concise, professional, empathetic, & compassionate on a regulated basis, including during stressful or highpressure situations & interactions.
  • Strong attention to detail & spelling with the ability to accurately enter data with very few errors.
  • Ability to attend multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality & accuracy.
  • Ability to gather & analyze complex or diverse information
  • Customer service focused attitude and behavior
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients' products, procedure, & case detail.

Other duties may include:

  • Ability to perform various venipuncture techniques on both canine & feline patients.
  • Ability to collect & run pre/post
- operative diagnostic lab tests (PCV/TP, CBC, Chem15, etc.)

  • Ability to position for diagnostic imaging (radiographs, computer tomography, etc.)
  • Ability to perform various bandaging techniques
  • Ability to properly place IV catheters
  • Ability to perform drain & bandage removals with veterinarian approval
  • Ability to remove sutures/staples with veterinarian approval
  • Ability to operate & maintain common surgical equipment
  • Ability to administer SQ fluids
  • Ability to administer subcutaneous/intravenous/intramuscular injections
  • Ability to fill & dispense various prescriptions
  • Ability to update patient charts & charges
  • Must have the ability to assist oncall staff with various emergency surgeries
  • Can properly advise pet owners on postoperative care and medication dosages.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift or carry pets or objects weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance.

Have the physical strength and ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, repeated bending, pushing, pulling, full use of hands/fingers, and reach above shoulders for an entire shift when needed.

On occasion patients may bleed, urinate, defecate, vomit, or secrete other glandular fluids on your person, shoes, or uniform.
