Job Summary:


Ensures Knouse products are within quality specifications and prevents production of defective merchandise by sampling and evaluating raw materials, in process and finished products at assigned plant location.

Sample/Grade Frozen Fruit/Raw Materials as needed.

Cover any production line as needed.

Collect and review paperwork for accuracy and completion.

Assist with Trainings, product rechecks, decrease set asides, and other items for QA.

Works on projects related to Technical and QA as needed.


Fruit Inspection Responsibilities:


  • Inspect samples of grower cherries, peaches and apples based on corporate guidelines and issue a certificate of inspection.
  • Supervise other part-time/seasonal fruit inspectors.
  • Supervise labor crew involved with the inspection process including forklift operators and laborers.
  • Conduct the inspections in a fair and impartial manner and maintain confidentiality of the process and inspection results.
  • Work closely with corporate Technical and Raw Fruit departments on areas including compliance, timeliness of inspections and communicating any issues encountered from the inspection process. Communicate with raw fruit supervisors from other plants on the number of samples to be expected and shipping schedules daily.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records (paper and computerized).
  • Ensure the safety of all employees under the direction of this inspector.
  • Preferably have a working knowledge of fruit and varieties (in the case of apples) and common pest and disease blemishes. Training will be provided.
  • Expected to work OT as needed including some Saturdays.
  • Keep the inspection area in a clean and well-maintained manner including timely removal of waste and/or inspected fruit.

Quality Assurance Responsibilities:


  • Maintains integrity of laboratory equipment by completing equipment calibration, cleanliness, and housekeeping duties per procedure specifications.
Gathers information by printing computer generated score sheets to record information of inspection outcomes on scheduled time basis.

Ensures proper start of shift by completing all start-up checklist items as procedure sheet.

Records quality data by completing score sheet information according to procedures.

Evaluates raw materials, as required, by sampling and evaluating for specific quality attributes.

Raw materials include, but are not limited to, sweeteners, frozen fruits and purees, raw apples, concentrates and all dry ingredients.

Evaluates process products by sampling and evaluating for specific quality attributes, alerting production of trends from product specifications.


Ensures proper specification by sampling and evaluating container closures, container integrity, container coding, carton coding, and reporting deviation from specified parameters for adjustment by line mechanics and alerting Quality Assurance staff for correction.


  • Ensure proper disposition of out of specification products by alerting the Quality Assurance Staff for proper disposition.
Maintains historical reference by establishing a filing system for easy retrieval, maintaining files, and documenting procedures.

  • Maintains confidence and protects the organization by keeping information confidential and disclosing only on a need to know per company policy.
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Contributes to the Company effort by continually looking for ways to improve productivity and customer orientation within department by use of better technology, procedures, and use of resources.
  • Maintains technical knowledge/skills by using the performance appraisal system to assess personal strengths and development needs to accomplish the tasks of the position.
  • Performs all tasks as required by QA during any and all daily plant specific functions. These tasks include, but are not limited to, retesting finished products, gathering, and sending out weekly cutting samples, gathering, and sending out customer samples, coordinating and assisting with reconditioning projects, set aside sorting, etc.

The employee may be required to work daily or weekly overtime with the possibility of either shift including weekend crews. The employee may be required to work at other Knouse plants other than their home plant as needed. In such cases, Knouse will pay differential mileage plus differential pay.

Essential knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
Ø High School, technical school education or equivalent.

Ø Basic computer skills to input data.

Ø Basic math skills.
