Position Overview:


Within the Office of Epidemiology, Surveillance, and Emerging Diseases and under the supervision of the Senior Manager for Communicable and Emerging Diseases, the Communicable and Emerging Diseases Manager leads the day to day operations and management of disease surveillance for communicable and emerging infectious diseases.

This position works closely with the Intake and Case Investigation Manager and Communicable and Emerging Diseases Supervisor monitoring of disease trends, active and passive surveillance activities, and implementation of the Senior Manager's goals and objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads the communicable disease and emerging disease team of epidemiologists within OESED, including staff development and training, program operations, and partner communication. Oversees and participates in 24/7 on-call duty.-
  • Identifies gaps and areas for improvement in operations, makes recommendations for program enhancements, and implements approved changes under the direction of the Senior Manager. Ensures operations meet quality assurances standards.-
  • Ensures processes and plans are updated and key performance indicators are met. Overseeing staff training and cross-training to ensure proficient workforce and available surge capacity if needed for emerging disease or disaster response.-
  • Contributes to department wide reporting and initiatives pertaining to communicable and emerging diseases. Oversees improvements to and reporting from disease case management system.-
  • Represents OESED and HCPH at departmental, regional, state, or national meetings or committees related to communicable and emerging diseases. In the absence of the Communicable and Emerging Diseases Senior Manager, attends meetings and responds to inquiries on their behalf.

Education:


  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in biostatistics/statistics, epidemiology, public health, informatics or a related health or science field

Experience:


  • At least three (3) years of practical experience in the field of epidemiology communicable disease control or in public health setting, with a focus on disease investigations, report writing, and/or analyzing statistical data, in public health or related health settings.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory or management experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficient with statistical analysis software (SPSS, STATA, SAS, R, or Epi Info)
  • Proficient with epidemiological database software (e.g. Maven)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Ability to write reports and technical papers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
  • Ability to work well with public and staff members
