    Punahou Athletics plays an integral role in the student experience. The Athletics Department supports more than 120 teams in over 30 sports. Punahou's athletic teams have enjoyed unparalleled success since the school was founded in 1841. The school also received notable recognition in Sport Illustrated as the top high school athletic program in the country. The coaching staff at Punahou School plays a significant role in the success of its' Athletics program and the education of our students.

    The Punahou Athletics Department is actively recruiting an Athletic Performance Coach. The Athletic Performance Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and safely leading participants through strength and conditioning sessions both in the weight room as well as other athletic facilities. The Athletic Performance Coach is also responsible for providing technical and professional supervision of the preparation of student-athletes for competitive athletic competition through the utilization of scientifically based principles of athletic performance training. Duties to include, but not limited to:
    • Coach and supervise strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports teams to optimize athletic performance and decrease injury potential
    • Execute testing protocols to determine the effectiveness of strength and conditioning training plans
    • Teaching proper weight lifting, speed, agility, and conditioning techniques with appropriate progressions for users of the weight room facility
    • Teaching proper weight lifting and conditioning techniques with appropriate progressions
    • Manage day to day weight room operations, team training times, and risk management (safety)
    • Implementing rehabilitative and reconditioning programs prescribed by the Athletic Training staff
    • Communicate effectively with administrators, coaches, students, faculty, staff and the general public
    • Embrace self-directed learning and actively pursue professional development opportunities
    • Comply with all school rules and Punahou's Coaches' Code of Ethics
    • Ensure all operational safety of equipment
    • Ensure orderliness of equipment for added safety
    • Enforce all rules of the facility
    • Assist with daily cleaning of equipment and facility
    • Respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner
    • Complete and submit incident reports in a timely manner
    Position Details:
    • Work Year: 9 Months
    • School Year:
    • Work Hours: Monday - Friday, Hours will vary depending on operational needs
    • Stipend Range*: $400 - $2875
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree. Master's preferred.
    • CPR Certification.
    • National Strength and Conditioning Association CSCS certification.
    • In-depth knowledge of fundamental movements for physical development.
    • Knowledge of appropriate weight lifting, mobility, and flexibility techniques.
    • In-depth knowledge of periodization and programming to develop appropriate year-long training regimens for teams and student athletes.
    • Knowledge of the Youth Physical Development Model to prescribe appropriate training sessions for Physical Education classes.
    • Knowledge of proper instructional methods, progressions, and use of teaching tools.
    • Knowledge of health and safety education strategies.
    • Knowledge of standard emergency procedures and the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
    • Working familiarity of basic computer skills.
    • Proven leadership in individual, teams, and classes; small and large group management skills and the ability to lead activities in a variety of settings.
    • Ability to teach and demonstrate proper lifting techniques (with progressions).
    • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently and make decisions based on the needs of students, student-athletes, and general weight room users.
    • Ability to handle and resolve conflict in a professional and tactful manner.
    • Ability to acknowledge difficult situations and respond accordingly.
    • Ability to make decisions quickly and easily with safety as a top priority.
    • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse teams.
