    Departmental Overview

    University Development and Alumni Relations Overview


    University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy.

    UDAR provides overall direction for the campus philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers.

    The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, data management, gift management, reporting and analytics, and more.

    Advancement Operations Unit Overview


    Advancement Operations develops and delivers the centralized business systems and services that support the work of UC Berkeley's 30 decentralized fundraising units-helping them collaborate and communicate in order to maximize their collective results.

    Advancement Operations also provides governance through its role as the official source of alumni and fundraising data.

    The Advancement Information Services (AIS) unit develops and delivers the primary business data and systems that support the work of UC Berkeley's centralized and decentralized fundraising activities.

    AIS oversees several interrelated information technology systems and tools, including the Cal Advancement Data System (CADS), the database in which advancement professionals research and record fundraising activity.


    AIS encompasses three units:
    Data and Business Solutions, Technology Services, and Strategic Planning and Management.

    Data Management Team Overview

    Data Management (DM) is the office of record for data related to alumni, donors, and friends of UC Berkeley.

    DM helps the advancement community meet programmatic and campaign goals by providing accurate, complete data that documents the campus's relationship with its constituents.

    DM protects, archives, enhances, and manages the data and delivers it through efficient processes and effective systems in a secure environment.

    Position Overview

    Involves data-based analysis of practices, processes, and problems in support of projects assigned to the Data Management team.

    Collaborates with AIS team members on developing data solutions which may include process design, data and information architecture, software development and policy or procedural changes; documenting specifications for systems to meet requirements; validating requirements against stakeholder needs; designing details of automated systems; developing user interface design; planning and executing systems integration and end-user acceptance testing; assisting in developing training materials for system implementation.

    Serves as a translator between business stakeholders and UDAR technology and solution teams. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex data or systems issues.

    Responsibilities

    Applies technical expertise and data analysis concepts to identify, evaluate and define complex systems scope and objectives with an understanding of applicable practices, processes, systems and industry standards to meet end-user needs.

    Collaborates with technical staff throughout most phases of systems analysis and implementation projects while considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment.

    Performs and documents effective business analysis following UDAR's established project guidelines and templates.

    Provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures in support of UDAR data management and fundraising goals.

    Creates specifications for systems to meet end-user requirements. Involved in developing user interface designs. Plans and executes unit integration and acceptance testing. Participates in cross-functional teams to address complex business or systems issues.
    Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for approval of data process and procedural documentation. Recommends and implements changes in processes and procedures. Negotiates with stakeholders on the creation of specifications to solve business or systems issues. Update or produce needed project materials. Applies professional business analysis concepts and campus IT and project management policies and procedures in managing moderately complex assignments.

    Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes business and user needs, documenting requirements and revising existing system and process logic issues as necessary.

    Provides support and training on new applications.
    Participates in professional development related to this field to enhance knowledge, expertise and efficiency for data management work.
    Required Qualifications

    Minimum 2-3 years experience with data systems and data analysis functions. Strategic thinking skills and critical attention to detail a must.
    Minimum 2-3 years experience with effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

    Minimum 2-3 years experience with and demonstrated knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow, and data architecture.

    Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
    Familiarity with logical data design, data warehouse design, data integration, or the management of structured data.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and propose effective solutions
    Demonstrated proficiency in SQL, Python, or another programming language and the abilitly to query, manipulate, analyze large datasets efficiently.
    Verbal and Written Communication; requires a high level of professionalism and ability to communicate successfully with a variety of colleagues at all levels within the organization
    Education/Training

    Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience or training
    Preferred Qualifications

    Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
    Broad knowledge relating to software design and experience with automating tasks.
    Knowledge of fundraising concepts and practices. Familiarity with current industry trends in both advancement and IT.
    Proven ability in troubleshooting data-related issues and optimizing processes for improved efficiency.
    Salary & Benefits

    This is a 36 month (3-year) contract exempt, monthly paid position, eligible for full UC benefits.

    Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement.

    This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.

    It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position.

    Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.


    The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $95,000 - $105,000, commensurate with experience.

    This is a contract hybrid position, eligible for 90% remote capability.
    This is not a V isa opportunity.
