Departmental Overview


University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR), increases support for and enhances knowledge of UC Berkeley through communications, public outreach, and fundraising.

UDAR is responsible for fundraising and donor engagement, and works to strengthen unit development offices by consulting and partnering with campus fundraisers.

UDAR also handles a range of central activities and services encompassing events, communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, database management, and more.

Student Experience & Diversity (SED)


The Student Experience & Diversity (SED) Philanthropy program, situated within UDAR, builds innovative philanthropic partnerships to ensure that belonging, discovery, and financial access are integral to every Berkeley student's education.

The SED program primarily raises major gifts in support of student aid, co-curricular activities, and equity and inclusion.

The team interfaces with a broad range of divisions and academic units on campus, and serves as the primary fundraising entity for the divisions of Equity & Inclusion, Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education.

Position Overview


The Assistant Director serves as an experienced professional and key partner to the SED Executive Director (ED), Deputy Director (DD), development officers, and program leaders, in planning and execution of fundraising strategies for cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects.

Exercising in-depth understanding of the fundraising field, this position will develop, write, and implement various highquality, multimedia, custom fundraising materials for advancing giving relationships with prospects/donors to help meet to meet SED's annual fundraising goal of $50M+.

This position uses skills as an experienced fundraising professional.

Plans, schedules, and implements comprehensive fundraising projects and programs, including creation and coordination of materials for donor solicitation, leadership briefings, stewardship reports, and donor engagement activities.

Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

This position will be a strategic thought partner in advancing SED fundraising plans and working collaboratively on SED fundraising projects, and is expected to raise $500K+ once established.

Prospect Advancement


Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Advancement and Stewardship, the Assistant Director serves as a key partner to the SED Executive Director (ED), Deputy Director (DD), development officers, and program leaders, in planning and execution of fundraising strategies for cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects to meet SED's annual fundraising goal of $50M+.

Facilitate the donor solicitation process by developing, writing and implementing various high-quality, multimedia, custom fundraising materials for advancing giving relationships with prospects/donors.

These include fundraising proposals, briefings for donor prospect meetings, talking points, budgets, stewardship materials, presentations, and correspondence on behalf of campus leaders including but not limited to the Vice Chancellors/Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusio
