Betty Shabazz International Charter School (BSICS) is looking to immediately hire for the school year teachers with an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed in K-12 physical education.

Established in 1998, BSICS is a network comprised of two K-8 Chicago elementary campuses. Our Betty Shabazz Academy campus is located at 7823 S. Ellis Ave in Chatham. Our Barbara A. Sizemore Academy campus is located at 6547 S. Stewart Ave in Englewood.

Our academic model incorporates Black history, achievement and culture as well as community service and values into all aspects of our rigorous curriculum, school routines and physical environment.

As a result, on a daily basis, our students are reminded that with culture, community, planning, proper values, discipline, and individual and collective work they can overcome any challenge, academically excel and become transformational next generation leaders.

Physical education instructors hired to teach at BSICS are expected to:

• Promote physical fitness and health awareness in children.
• Teach basic techniques of different types of physical exercise.
• Teach children proper techniques of exercise and diet according to age group.
• Plan and conduct enjoyable physical activities with proper regard to safety, skill development, and fitness.
• Ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition.
• Adapt exercises to meet the needs of special population groups, such as disabled students and those with a limited range of movement.
• Direct noncredit fitness programs for adults.
• Guide the development of physical education curricula for student teachers.
• Evidence classroom management practices that fosters respects as well as affirm and inspire students to become selfconfident, independent, successful learners,
• Analyze student data to focus and drive whole class and individualized instruction,
• Possess the patience and skills to effectively interact with students in need of socialemotional supports.

The instructional staff at Betty Shabazz is truly a Village of dynamic and experienced teachers committed to working together to help each other address all challenges to daily, successful teaching and student learning.

Hired teachers will continuously grow in their instructional practices through regular participation with other teachers and staff in professional development, department meetings, teaching video observations and coaching sessions.

Also, all teachers hired are provided with supports to achieve their personal professional pursuits.
