- Performs County-wide comprehensive emergency planning, emergency response activities, disaster recovery actions, public outreach, and mitigation program implementation with the Department of Public Safety.
- Coordinates the Countywide Emergency Shelter Program, including achieving a full understanding of current capabilities; identifies additional potential sites; coordinates site suitability surveys; works with all stakeholders to provide for shelter operations; keeps all parties up to date on current capabilities.
- Serves as the Emergency Management Liaison for the School District, NGOs such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way, and other benevolent and faith-based service organizations; and coordinates activities with each. Conducts public outreach activities (e.g., presenting at seminars, presentations, classes).
- Provides consultative assistance to local agencies on emergency logistics efforts and disaster recovery; assists in maintaining the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in a state of readiness; performs other emergency preparation, response, and recovery activities; and works on other projects, as assigned.
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in public administration, emergency management, or closely related field and two years emergency management or closely related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in public administration, emergency management, public health, or closely related field.
- FEMA ICS and NIMS Courses.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing emergency and disaster operations.
- Ability to review and analyze technical reports and papers concerning natural disaster and emergency operations.
- Ability to assess situations under emergency conditions and make recommendations for course of action.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, leadership, and responsibility for the direction of a team. Knowledge of current Emergency Management processes, procedures, philosophies, and trends.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations and to recommend prudent courses of action.
- Ability to be flexible, organized, and focused; as well as display good judgment, initiative, and follow through.
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
- Must exhibit the ability to be part of a coordinated team approach to problem solving and to work in sometimes stressful and highly charged environments.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal direct supervision.
- The work days and hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Must have the ability to respond after hours to emergency call outs, work extended hours in adverse conditions during emergencies, and perform on call duties for emergency response on a rotational schedule.
