Position Description:


  • The Harris County Clerk's Election Department Outreach Division is responsible for effectively managing external relationships with community members and community stakeholders. By developing effective and inclusive outreach, organizing, mobilization, and information sharing strategies, we aim to improve civic engagement and empower communities by educating voters about elections and the voting process.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Serves as liaison to stakeholders by developing a solid understanding of assigned communities both academic and on the ground.
  • Establishing and managing relationships with community members and stakeholders.
  • Conducting Volunteer outreach
- recruitment, scheduling and training.

  • Representing HCCO-ED at appropriate meetings, and community events, as needed.
  • Being available during nontraditional work hours for events.
  • Implementing action plans by informing, organizing and mobilizing various community stakeholders around voter education and elections.
  • Draft presentations.
  • Contributing to the department's daily operational tasks.
  • Preparing reports for management, community stakeholders, and other departments.
  • Learning from 'best practice' models to improve approach and action on community issues.
  • Physical labor (i.e. setting up and participating in events, etc. must be able to lift 30lbs unassisted)
  • Planning and hosting meetings for community stakeholders.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of community organizing or relations experience.

OR

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of community organizing or relations experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well on a team to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with clear deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability and willingness to work with a diverse range of groups, including all communities, ethnicities, religions, and cultural and social groups/backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced, teamoriented environment.
  • Ability to meet goals and reporting requirements on a weekly basis under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work overtime without prior notice and work flexible hours as required.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be willing to travel to any destination required to participate or assist with department projects and/or events.

Preferences:


  • Public or community relations experience.
  • Bilingual: Korean, or Farsi, or ASL.

General Information:


Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular Full-time-
  • Monday
  • Friday | 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.-
  • Overtime hours are mandatory during Election cycles.
  • Must be willing to work overtime

    Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filling cabinets.
  • Traveling with outreach packets, repeatedly lift and carry 30 lbs. demo voting equipment, ability to stand and walk for hours at a time, and other necessary materials.

  • This position does not include paid parking; a subsidized Harris County Metro card is available after employees receive their first paycheck.
    Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
