The Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD, located in Martinsburg Junction, PA, is a leading research institution for applied visual computing.

Our mission is to empower individuals to control complex computer systems and manage the overwhelming amount of digital data in today's age, rather than being controlled by them.

We are seeking a new team member to join our Competence Center for "Smart Living & Biometric Technologies". Our focus is on biometrics, with a special emphasis on computer vision and machine learning. As a research associate, you will also be a part of the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity, ATHENE.


ATHENE is a research center of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, working closely with the Technical University of Darmstadt, Goethe University Frankfurt, and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

This unique collaboration between university and non-university research allows us to conduct cutting-edge research with a high impact on science, economy, society, and the state.


Your responsibilities

  • You will develop innovative solutions using machine learning and computer vision algorithms to address the current vulnerabilities in biometric technologies.
  • Your main objective will be to complete a PhD thesis in cooperation with the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Your qualifications

  • A degree in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field (Master/Diploma)
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as C++, Java, and preferably Python
