Role Description:


The Water Treatment Operator is responsible for the production of safe and high quality drinking water for public consumption while following the owner/contractor agreement and DDW regulatory compliance.

The Water Treatment Operator ensures that all plant operational tasks are performed in accordance with the operating procedures and parameters set by company policy.

Staff appointed to this position will be knowledgeable and qualified to carry out the work designated to them in a safe and efficient manner.


Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • General knowledge of modes of the plant process & equipment, Operations Manual, water quality monitoring and sampling, and DDW regulatory compliance
  • General knowledge of owner/contractor agreement
  • Monitors the Human Machine Interface (HMI) system, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and telemetry equipment and reports out discrepancies
  • Ensures the safety and wellbeing of him or herself and reports any accidents and injuries to management
  • Communicates effectively to management, maintenance, operations and contractors as needed regarding any work being carried out at the plant to maintain synergy
  • Ensures operational information is passed on during plant turnover with shift partner
  • Ensures that he or she completes operational reads and lab data on log sheets and computer entries on a daily basis
  • Ensures that he or she records daily events in the Shift Log Book
  • Ensures that he or she maintains a clean and organized control room and plant
  • Assists in troubleshooting plant process issues, equipment, and repair work
  • May assist management in organizing and planning shut downs, as well as, potential maintenance/repair projects
  • Assists in covering as a relief operator
  • Conducts computer data work on Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS), Human Machine Interface (HMI) programs, such as, Wonderware Intouch, and Microsoft Office software
  • Monitors and orders bulk chemical deliveries and laboratory supplies
  • Follows company safety policies and ensures that he or she wears appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Ensures that work performed by staff meets compliance, safety codes, and follow Lock Out/Tag Out procedures

Duties:


  • Carries out controlled plant startups and shut downs under management's discretion
  • Monitors the performance and operation of the plant through the SCADA Interface
  • Troubleshoots plant process issues and assists in equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Notifies management of equipment or system faults and carries out instructions
  • Monitors and orders bulk chemicals and laboratory supplies
  • Assists in the maintenance and calibration of analyzers, turbidity meters and other instrumentation
  • Performs conductivity profiles and assists in other operational duties
  • Assists in the cleanup and organization of the plant, workshops, warehouse, and parts inventory
  • Assists in the installation and/or fabrication of modular units
  • Completes any training deemed necessary related to plant needs
  • Covers shifts as a relief operator
  • Operates machinery such as: forklift, scissor lifts, and company vehicle
  • May work with power tools, grinders, saws, etc.
  • Oversees the security of the plant and ensures that staff and contractors follow PPE practice

Qualifications:


  • SWRCB T3 Preferred, T2 Considered
  • Must have at least 1 years of operational experience in a water treatment facility, desalination preferred
  • Experience working with HMI, SCADA systems, and telemetry equipment preferred
  • Computer skills in CMMS and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, drawings and schematics
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and the handling/working with hazardous chemicals
  • Hazwoper Certification preferred
  • Knowledge of parts inventory and warehouse operations
  • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and holidays when necessary
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Mathematical skills in Geometry
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and forklift certification preferred
  • Successfully pass a background check, preemployment physical and drug test
