VETERINARY TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION The primary purpose and function of the VT Supervisor is to perform the duties of a veterinary technician, as well as provide continuity and operational support across all shifts, ensuring that the hospital always has leadership onsite to support employees and the caseload of the clients. The VT Supervisor will oversee the daily scheduling for, and aid in all training and oversite of the hospital staff while developing a cohesive and collaboratives team. The VT Supervisor will support hospital leadership in maximizing the productivity of the hospital. This position will work with the Practice Manager, Director of Operations, Chief Medical Officer and other members of the leadership team (including all departments and locations) to help ensure effective communication with clients, staff, and volunteers on a daily basis.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS The ratio of time spent on leadership duties and professional responsibilities will vary depending on the hospital situation; the VT Supervisor must use good judgment in prioritizing their duties on any given day, ensuring hospital productivity.


Daily Responsibilities:


  • Promote the Mission of First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP) and exemplify those behaviors within self and team. Always fostering the FCNMHP top ten rules to live by.
  • Actively assist in promoting timeliness and efficiency in loading rooms, completing services, educating clients, promoting preventive care, and making sure all charges are invoiced promptly and correctly.
  • Maximize the number of pets seen by the hospital team through a productive and efficiently run hospital to support the needs of our clients while working closely with DVMs. This includes directing team members as needed and identifying deficiencies and areas of opportunity.
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times. This includes encouraging hospital visits, welcoming clients and pets, ensuring that they are comfortable in the hospital, educating them about their pet's health, performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed in the state practice acts.
  • Assist clients with discharge by providing all necessary instructions, information and invoices, dispensing prescription items per the veterinarian's instructions, selling retail products and scheduling future appointments.
  • Ensure hospital team is using supplies and inventoried items as directed to reduce waste and overhead costs, all while ensuring that appropriate items are being used and billed correctly. Identify ways to reduce missed charges and work with practice manager to identify cost effective products and equipment needs.
  • Make sure all SOPs and hospital protocols are being followed at all times by self as well as those around you including doctors and hospital staff.
  • Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
  • Ensure all hospitalized pets are prepped and all equipment is ready for surgery.

Leadership Responsibilities:


  • Assist Practice Manager in developing an efficient, productive hospital team that provides the highest quality care and service to as many pets and clients as possible, following all FCNMHP protocols and practices, as well as all local, state and federal laws.
  • Ensure all hospital associates adhere to FCNMHP Handbook and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support Practice Manager in hospital labor management which may include adjusting VT Staff's schedules on a shift by shift basis. Maintain a 3 weeksinadvance schedule for posting staff schedules and ensure that all doctors are appropriately supported for each shift.
  • Assist Practice Manager in the hiring, training, and daytoday supervision of the VT team to ensure quality medical care, exceptional client service, associate engagement and maximum productivity.
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional client service (lead by example), ensuring all associates do the same, to include client education, hospital services, marketing campaigns, and other related information.
  • Effectively resolve client issues
  • Foster an environment that engages associates, where associates do their best and feel good about being a member of the team.
  • Provide effective communication between associates, clients, practice manager, and all hospital leadership.
  • Work closely with Practice Manager to communicate and document any issues, incidents, or areas that need improvement. This will also include documenting any bite reports, workers compensation claims, rabies quarantine, rabies testing reports, and incident reports, etc.
