General Responsibilities
Plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the department, its maintenance programs and activities. Assures room readiness prior to all resident move-ins and maintains a preventative maintenance program for the community.

Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.

b. Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data.
c. Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
d.

Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.


Supports and participates in common teamwork:
a. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with mínimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
b. Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.
d. Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests.
e.

Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.


Essential Duties

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the Environmental Services Department, and maintenance programs and activities.
  • Develops and maintains written environmental services and maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains written job descriptions and performance evaluations in coordination with the f HR Director.
  • Interprets and establishes when needed, the department's policies and procedures for employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc.
  • Assumes the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the Environmental Services Department.
  • Coordinates environmental services and activities with other related departments (I.e., Dietary, Nursing, etc.).
  • Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the Environmental Services Department.
  • Inspects storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.
  • Participates in community surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
  • Reviews and develops a plan of correction for environmental services deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provides a written copy of such to the Executive Director.
  • Oversees maintenance services with all departments.
  • Develops a preventative maintenance program for the community.
  • Serves on various committees of the community as required by existing regulations and as appointed by the Executive Director.
  • Evaluates and implements recommendations as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Attends department head meetings, etc., as scheduled or as may be called.
  • Determines departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the Environmental Services Department's needs.
  • Assists in the recruitment, retention, and selection of environmental services personnel.
  • Ensures that appropriate identification documents are presented prior to employment and that such records are maintained in the employee's personnel record.
  • Schedules department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, cleaning schedules, etc., to expedite work.
  • Assists in standardizing the methods in which environmental services tasks will be performed.
  • Ensures that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status.
  • Meets with environmental services personnel monthly, and solicits advice from inter-departmental supervisors concerning the operation of the Environmental Services Department; assists in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
  • Investigates complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel and provides report to Executive Director.
  • Makes daily rounds to assure that environmental services personnel are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate environmental services procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the Community.
