    Department Profile:
    The Human Resources function leads the implementation of the Group's people strategy in line with business objectives.

    It facilitates talent management, succession planning and employee mobility while defining and overseeing frameworks that support employee performance management, reward, learning and development, resourcing and engagement.


    Role Purpose:


    The Country Head of HR, Japan role oversees and manages the effective execution of the people agenda for HSBC Japan across Businesses / Functions and Digital Business Services to enable business performance at country level.

    The role holder will be closely working with Country CEO, Regional Head of HR, and the Japan EXCO members.


    Principal Accountabilities:
    Act as the Senior Human Resources Leader for HSBC Japan, supporting the Country CEO, and the Regional Head of Human Resources International Markets, Asia Pacific

    Partner with the HSBC Japan Executive Committee to align the People Strategy with the Country Strategic Plan across all Global Businesses and Functions

    Steward, challenge, advice, monitor and report on People Strategy execution and operational Human Capital matters

    Work closely with the Country CEO, advising on the components of People Strategy to drive sustainable business performance and growth

    Foster an organisational culture that delivers working environments built on the principles of inclusion, employee well-being, employee development and HSBC values

    Provide country input to Global Human Resources policy and product design and deployment plans for the region to ensure smooth execution across the whole portfolio of business lines in Japan

    Coach to develop and enhance leadership and people manager capability

    Provide strong leadership to the Japan Human Resources Leadership Team and formulate plans to deliver people strategies across the country

    Ensure the effectiveness of key succession plans and effective executive resourcing to move talent and high performers into key leadership and key contributor roles

    Lead all relevant employee relations/engagement, related regulatory and compliance matters and the management of Human Resources operational risk

    Drive change in the Human Resources function to bring about improvement in service delivery and operational efficiency that delivers superior colleague experience


    Qualifications Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
    Senior leader with strong execution focused to get things done, as well as clear vision and judgement. Deep knowledge of Human Resources competencies including business impact, effective relationship and consultancy, operational excellence and change management.

    Experience in leading the Human Resources function across a multinational, matrix organisation; within banking or financial services is advantageous.


    Strong influencing skills, communication skills and the stature and credibility to effectively interact with senior business executives across the organisation.

    Interpersonal style that elicits trust, open mindedness, and co-operation and that builds effective, collaborative working relationships at all levels.


    Deep understanding and experience of local labor regulations and ability to manage labor issues in an employee friendly regulatory, labor, and judiciary environments.


    Strong HR professional with vast work experience across all HR Pillars especially in Employee Relations, Performance & Rewards, Governance, Talent and Succession Planning, Organizational Development.

    Fluency in English is mandatory; ability to speak Japanese is highly desirable
