Description
Position is a Medical Laboratory Technician located at Central Prison Healthcare Complex in Raleigh, which houses approximately 1318 close custody male offenders.
The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for performing all aspects of laboratory medicine in the departments of hematology, coagulation, serology, blood bank, microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry, and special chemistry as ordered by appropriate medical staff to include Phlebotomy, specimen preparation and testing.
Position is also responsible for recollecting or assisting in the collections of blood, urine and tissue specimens for analysis using sophisticated lab equipment to look for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms.
Utilizes knowledge of basic phlebotomy in the collection of all patient blood samples to include technique, selection of specimen tubes based on tests ordered, handling of specimens in preparation for testing & knowledge of specimen acceptability.
Accurately labels specimens, Assists in collecting non-blood specimens and prepares blood & body fluid specimens for analysis. Performs required daily printing of reports for laboratory supervisor's review.This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.
This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.
Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position.

Associate's degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution or completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
