    This position is located at the Central Prison Health Complex (CPHC), Raleigh, NC. Central Prison is a close-custody prison housing male offender. Central Prison serves as the hub for healthcare for the male inmate population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 1318 offenders. Position will provide professional nursing care and treatment to patients within CP Healthcare Complex.

    Positions at this level perform comprehensive, complex professional level nursing work in providing primary, preventative and rehabilitative care to individuals and families in a variety of settings, including public health.

    The Nurse Consultant I is responsible for the implementation, coordination and evaluation of patient care, and may assist the nursing supervisor by directly supervising all licensed and unlicensed nursing staff on their assigned shift.

    Duties for this position include but are not limited to:


    • Rotates house supervisor responsibilities.
    • Assisting the physician, carrying out orders, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.
    • Responding to emergencies,
    • Facilitating mental and dental healthcare,
    • Preparing medication for administration and administering medications,
    • Monitoring for communicable diseases,
    • Updating physical examinations, teaching, delegating to or supervising other personnel in implementing treatment regimens.
    This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

    NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC):
    The Dept.

    of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.

    This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.

    Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

    • Considerable knowledge and skill in the application of professional nursing theory, techniques and practices.
    • Documented knowledge of supervisory practices and charge nurse roles.


    Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience in the area of specialization.
