Summary:


General Responsibilities:


  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized environment for staff and students.
  • Maintains the cleanliness throughout the day of all common areas including the kitchen, cafeteria, lobby and break rooms
  • Keep items stocked in classrooms, restrooms, conference rooms, common areas
  • Monitors, cleans, and services all restrooms and classrooms
  • Assess facility related problems and proposes potential solutions.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule to perform work after school hours when the nature of the work would create a safety hazard for staff and students. Schedule flexibility is also needed to account for emergencies related to weather, electrical, security, etc. This includes assisting the maintenance team with snow removal.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Facilities Manager and Senior Management
  • Adheres to the Crossroads Employee Handbook.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Fixes/repairs general plumbing, woodworking and electrical problems, and assesses when professional help is needed.
  • Repairs holes in the walls.
  • Paints when needed, especially after repair work and for general maintenance during breaks.
  • Installs wall mounted equipment.
  • Distributes deliveries to the appropriate department or individual.
  • Runs local errands for the school.
  • Assists staff with moving furniture, supplies, and materials.
  • Assists staff in setting up for school functions.
  • Insures the safety of walkways including the removal of snow and ice during inclement weather.
  • At the start of each week, cleans the interior of the vans and fills gas tanks.
  • Schedules regular maintenance and repairs of the vans.
  • Every week updates the inventory sheet of regularly used supplies needed at the next shopping trip.
  • Orders facility supplies when needed using the facilities management sheet
  • Checks school building first thing in the morning and at end of shift for safety, cleanliness and maintenance issues.
  • Reports facilities issues to the Facilities Manager.
  • When necessary, takes out trash and recycling to appropriate outdoor trash/recycling containers.
  • Anticipates facility needs and reports them to the Facilities Manager.
  • Coordinate facilities needs with the cleaning vendor.
  • Clean spills around the school, as needed.
  • Regularly checks thermostats for even heating and cooling.
  • Secures building upon leaving for the day.

Communication:


  • Follow lines of communication specified in the Organizational Chart.
  • Share relevant information with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Asks questions when something is unknown or unclear.
  • Actively recognize the accomplishments and contributions of others.
  • Accept performance feedback gracefully.
  • Practices confidentiality and maintain a high standard of ethics.
  • Show support for Crossroads.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Crossroads.

Attendance, Participation, and Timeliness:


  • Demonstrate punctuality and an appropriate attendance record.
  • Complete timecards according to protocol.
  • Meets assigned deadlines with mínimal prompts.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings.
  • Attend monthly inservice trainings until 4pm.
  • Attend Crossroads events (e.g., Open House, Annual 5K Walk/Run).

Educational and Experiential Requirements:


  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • Must have prior janitorial or custodial experience
  • Must possess a valid, Massachusetts driver's license and a clean driving history.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and woodworking.

Skill and Ability Requirements:


  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, staff, and vendors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently when needed.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Punctual, caring, compassionate and hard working.

Pay:
From $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
