    THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO ALL APPLICANTS
    What You Will Be Doing

    This senior auditor position, with the support of other auditors and tax technicians, promotes compliance with Alaska's tax laws through audits, compliance projects, and general maintenance of one or more of the following programs: Fisheries Related Taxes, Mining License Tax, Vehicle Rental Tax, Commercial Passenger Vessel Excise Tax, Large Passenger Vessel Gambling Tax, and Tire Fees.


    As one of two lead auditors for Excise Audit Group #2, this position is responsible with assisting the group supervisor in the overall management of assigned tax programs, including mentoring, training, and reviewing work of junior auditors and tax technicians.

    Mission and Culture
    The Department of Revenue, Tax Division is charged with collecting state taxes and administering tax laws. We also regulate charitable gaming and provide revenue estimating and economic forecasting. We promote compliance through quality service and fair administration. We provide accurate and timely information to Alaska taxpayers.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

    Accountability:
    Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Determines objectives, sets priorities, and delegates work. Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions. Complies with established control systems and rules.

    Auditing:

    Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.


    Principles of Accounting:

    Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.


    Tax Law:
    Knowledge of accounting and tax law for individuals, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and/or corporations.

    Technical Credibility:
    Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.

    Equivalent to those typically gained by:


    Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, tax, auditing, examining, preparing, reviewing, or reconciling financial accounts and data.


    Special Note:
    "Competencies" means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

    "Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

    "Training" and "education" in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

    "Professional experience" means work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to one's own judgment.

    "Progressively responsible" means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.
